Day 11 – Puerto Williams - Ushuaia

Woke Darrel with a coffee at 7.50 and he was seen complete with coffee rushing to the naval office down the road. Back in 15 with the completed papers. Cast off the lines and we motored out in the early sunlight- the light on Puerto Williams and the mountains was amazing. The decision had already been taken that the Dientes circuit hike wasn’t going to happen so straight back to Ushuaia. The snow dusting seen the previous day had completely disappeared with an evenings rain.

Arriving just after midday and a crushed overloaded trip (all 11 of us) in Darrels trusty 4X4 to the Prefectura for re-entry to Argentina. A short wait and we were cleared again for Argentina. Most of us electing to walk back rather than suffer the large judder bars every 500m along the main road. This judder bar system is very effective and extremely prevalent in Argentina – all areas and apparently completely randomly placed but they are VERY effective at slowing traffic as we were to learn later when driving ourselves.

Ross and Frances did an accommodation run and found two reasonable and well appointed apartments – one for 6 – the family group and the other triple for Shelene and us. Warm, spacious and clean, only three blocks apart.

The taxi ride back with our luggage was a record load! All 7 bags (2 each plus the paddle bag) plus 3 day packs plus us in a single cab - no it was NOT a large one. The luggage took up the boot, the front passenger seat and one back seat. Shelene, Brett and I shared the other back seat. It was NOT a comfortable trip, but it was cheap.
